Making The Most Of Your Suitcase Space

By the time this will be posted I will be soaking up the sun in Sitges, yay! There's nothing I don't like about holiday, except packing. Packing is the bane of my life. I'm prone to going over the weight limit at the airport and although I'm getting better as the years go by I know first hand how difficult it is to set limits and use your suitcase space wisely. Here are some tips that I have picked up over the years of being a horrendous waster of suitcase space.

 Select your shoes carefully

Shoes always take up the most room and weigh down my suitcase terribly so this holiday I am limiting myself to only a few versatile pairs on my upcoming holiday. Versatility is the key to prevent over packing so have a think about what clothes you've packed and what shoes could go with a variety of what you're going to be wearing.

Plan your outfits day by day

Plan mix and matchable outfits so you don't have to take as many clothes for a new outfit every night. Although clothes are light, they can take up a lot of room if packed carelessly, so take the time to plan what you're going to wear every single day and evening while you're away so you have something to stick to while packing. This way you won't end up basically throwing all your wardrobe into your suitcase and wasting space. Last year when I went to Malia I majorly over packed on clothes and only ended up wearing half of it, and I was over the weight limit. For this year's holiday I've made a list of every outfit for every day so I won't pack any unnecessaries.

Get some cutie patotie travel sized items

There's nothing cuter than travel sized items. Okay, that's a slight exaggeration (piglets are the cutest things in the world) but don't you love looking at all the diddy travel sized items in Boots? Aside from their tiny cute-ness, travel items are a great investment for saving suitcase space and keeping your weight down. If I don't opt for travel sized items I usually end up throwing my toiletries away before returning home because I'm scared I'll be over the limit, so buying travel toiletries can give you peace of mind that you won't go over and even if you do throw them away, they're a fraction of the price so it's nothing to worry about.

Do your research on your accommodation

Before you go away you want to know what sort of facilities your accommodation have to offer. Do they have a hairdryer or iron available to use? It's important to research these things because if you can save yourself space by not packing a hairdryer you don't want to end up bringing one! If your accommodation doesn't have appliances available, you can get ones especially designed to be travel friendly as they are smaller and lighter than usual. I bought my beloved, trustly foldable travel iron from Amazon and it's perfect for saving suitcase space whilst being a really useful item to have for holidays.

Do you have any tricks for saving suitcase space whilst travelling?

  1. travel sized products are my faves; I even use them in every day use, partly because they're cheaper than the full version like Smashbox BB cream :)

I like the planning outfits for every day. That's good for lessening anxiety :)

    1. That's such a good point, I might have to check that out! Xx

  2. Planning outfits is the key! I did it this year and it worked out really well. It also meant I didn't waste valuable holiday time trying to decide what to wear!
