Although I've always been interested in it, I've never thought of myself as someone that has a natural knack for photography. Even though I still don't, I have felt like my photography has improved slightly since starting my blog and now I'm starting to feel happy about the progress my blog photographs have made. I hope to share some of my blog photography tips and tricks with you in this two part post, the first being about outfit pictures and the second about photographing objects.
When it comes to my outfit photography, I honestly can't really take credit. I'm lucky enough that James takes all my outfit photos and he does a great job, so I've asked him to share some tips with me for taking amazing outfit photos!
Be Chatty
I'm lucky enough to have someone with me when I'm doing my photos, so we can have some fun and chat while we shoot. Talking, laughing and smiling with each other while you're taking photos creates fab opportunities for great natural action shots. Be sure to keep the camera on while goofing around to get those extra special pretty, playful photos.
Be Aware Of Exposure
I'm not the most technology savvy person when it comes to photography, but something that James and I are always aware of is exposure. James advises to always keep an eye on your exposure and adjust as you go to insure every photo's lighting is just right, not too dark or too bright. If you don't know how to do this on your camera, don't worry! Most editing programs allow you to do this manually, so you can always change the exposure in post-production.
Flaunt Your Best Angle
We all have our best angle; it can take a bit of practice to find, but once you've found it, use it to your advantage. Always be sure to mix up your poses but in a way you know you pull off so take lots of test shots, remember past pictures that you've really liked but I think most importantly keep natural, happy and relaxed to get the most out of your photos.
Location, Location, Location
This is actually a bit of James' advice that I want to start taking more myself as I really want to start mixing up my locations for my style posts soon; I hopefully will start to post-move! The settings you choose for your photos are important; if its a dull and dingy backdrop you don't want to be wearing Ibiza appropriate summer clothes. You want to use your location to compliment your outfit and tell the story of the outfit and I'm going to put this advice into practice myself as soon as possible!
Great tips! Thanks for this post, I'm always trying to improve my photography too!

DeleteLovely post! I really need to work on my poses, I've been meaning to do a style post for a while but the idea of being in front of the camera isn't my greatest dream. Thanks for the inspiration! X
ReplyDeleteHaha you and me both, I'm always so awkward it helps having my boyfriend there with me :) xx
DeleteI've only done a couple of outfit photos but I always feel sooo awkward! I think its because I know I'm generally not photogenic at all so I get all self-conscious (which of course makes it worse!). Great tips though xx
