Blogging 101: Staying On Top Of Your Blogging Schedule

blogging organisation tips advice how to stay on top of your blogging schedule blog youwishyou

Blogging is a hobby that I absolutely love and enjoy but I also take quite seriously. I love to create and post content regularly to keep my blog updated for both myself and my readers, but sometimes staying on top of my blogging schedule can be a bit difficult. Over the months and months I've been blogging regularly, I've started to create a few habits that I've found help me a lot when it comes to organizing my blog posts and keeping my posting consistent.

Every day when I wake up I make a to do list. Writing a physical to do list makes it crystal clear for you exactly what blogging tasks you have to do so you can manage your time throughout the day. This for me is such an important thing for staying on top of my schedule with blogging as I can work my day around this list. I tend to put both my blogging and non-blogging tasks on my list so I have in one place everything that I need to get done for that day.

This is so important for keeping up with your schedule especially as it's starting to get darker! Set aside one or two days a week to take a whole bunch of your photos so they are all ready on your laptop for editing and posting. The only reason I say one or two days instead of just one because let's be honest, sometimes photos don't turn out as well as you want them to! This way you're then giving yourself enough time amend any photos that have gone wrong and to perfect any details in your posts if necessary. I'm a massive perfectionist and if I'm not 100% happy with a post I will post it late if I need to, so it's always great to have other photos already finished so you can bring forward another post if you need to.

This is my absolute saviour when it comes to keeping up with scheduling as it means I know what posts are coming up and can use it to prepare them with ease without feeling like they are creeping up on me. I think the key to organisation is just to be aware of what you need to do and when by when so there's no unnecessary pressure on you in the few days leading up to a deadline or the day you wanted to post a specific post. I'd absolute love to get one of those massive one month calenders at some point so I can write all my post plans down all in one place (how sad is it I get super excited thinking about owning one of these?!) but at the moment I just use the notes in my phone to plan a week in advance.

If you've got a smartphone take advantage of it! Download that Blogger app and type out posts in the waiting room, on the bus or while you're getting your hair done. We have the technology to write up posts at a time while out and about at our fingertips so, you know, use it. If you don't have a phone that allows you to write lots at a time with ease, use the trusty old pen and paper, they work just as well and sometimes I find physically writing a bit better, I don't know why, but it's like my thoughts flow out easier (weird?).

This is so much easier said than done but one of the biggest fall backs for me when blogging that isn't time related, is motivation. We're all entitled to days spent in bed playing Sims, but getting inspired and keeping that inspired mindset will help the constant flow of creative thoughts, ideas and words. I find my biggest source of inspiration is reading, whether that is other blogs, magazines or non-fiction books, I'm a massive fan of writing so reading other writers rekindles my enthusiasm for writing when it's sometimes lacking.

At the end of the day, even though I understand it's great to stick to your schedule and post as often as you can, if you don't manage it, don't worry. We all have lives outside of blogging and your readers aren't going to pack up and leave if you need to prioritize other aspects of your life. For myself, blogging is a hobby that I love and whilst I do want to post as often as I can as I love writing as much as I can, I know it's not the end of the world if I skip a few days. For me the most important thing is posting content that I'm happy with and proud of rather than posting all the time but with shabby posts, so if you aren't managing to post every single day don't worry about it, post as much as you can but make sure you're happy with it.

  4. Brilliant tips! I'm also a massive fan of the blogging calender, I have a diary sat by my bed which I will use at least once a week to plan out posts - I've now got all my content decided on until mid-December which is quite reassuring! I just need to hurry myself up and find next year's diary soon so I can start planning for January! xo

  5. Great post sharing some tips not seen before. Slightly different to the normal 'managing your blog' posts. :) I am intrigued by this massive monthly calender though, I bet it is HUGE! I am starting to write to-do-lists for each day and I include every single little thing which really helps. Speaking of which . . . haha.

  6. These are great tips! One thing I need to start doing is writing to-do lists for my blog. I work full-time so can't blog during the day, but a to-do list will definitely help me organise what I need to do when I have the time. Loving your blog, thanks for giving me your link on Twitter :)
