The Perfect Elegant Nude: MAC's Cherish

Now we've well and truly left winter behind I find myself undoubtedly more inclined to reach for a lighter lip shade rather than a deep, winter colour. At times it can be tricky getting the balance between elegant pale nude and too stark, something that I especially find a bit of a challenge as I'm slightly darker skin toned; you want to avoid looking like you're trying to bring back concealer lips. In a haul last month I picked up MAC's Cherish lipstick, probably the lightest lipstick I had bought in a while and although at the time I thought it may be a bit risky, it's quickly turned into one of my favourites and my go-to for a simple, elegant nude lip.

MAC lipsticks are globally famed for their amazing quality and stunning shades and Cherish most definitely follows suit. It is a satin finish shade which means it creates the appearance of soft, seductive lips while also not drying them, which I find some matte shades can unfortunately be the culprit behind! Although this is the only MAC Satin Finish lipstick I own, it definitely has a dream like texture and is not overly slick but not drying or clinging like some of their matte lipsticks can be if you neglect the lip balm before application! I will admit I was a slightly bit unsure about trying a Satin finish lipstick as I was scared that the finish would just be a bit sheer and the colour non existent (I have the same fear about Creme Sheen finish which I'm still yet to try), but MAC has totally put those worries to bed and proved that the finish is still just as gorgeous and the colour just as strong as their other lipsticks.

Although it appears a more brown toned in the stick and when swatched on my skin, on the lips Cherish is actually an outstandingly gorgeous nude lipstick with a peach/beige tone to it, which really is the most perfect, elegant nude. I do think there is a fine line between pretty and tacky when it comes to nudes and Cherish is probably among one of the lightest shades I could pull off without starting to look unusual. It is a stunning colour which I find myself reaching for both during the day and of an evening, one of my favourite makeup looks while wearing it is of an evening with softly glowing skin and statement eye makeup; its simple elegance really completes the look. That being said, it also looks amazing paired with relaxed 'no makeup' makeup and effortlessly makes a look appear polished and chic.

The wear of Cherish is as you'd except from a MAC lipstick, but I'd argue that while it's still impressive, it's not the best of their range. It will stay put the majority of the evening but be sure to give it a fix up after eating and drinking! Their Matte lipsticks definitely stay put for a bit longer, but they are more drying on the lips, so this lipstick has its benefits, strengths and weaknesses but so does any other lipstick; it's still bloody amazing! Despite this, this is still a go-to choice for me as it adds serious class to any look with next to no effort. The only effort involved is winding up the lipstick then lifting your arm and applying, who can complain? Certainly not me when it's as beautiful as it is.
