How To Deal With A Knock In Confidence

Words by Catherine Delves
lifestyle, confidence, anxiety, worry, how to, grow confidence, gain, deal with stress, low confidence, why do I have, youwishyou, advice, help, 2015,

Knocks to confidence come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. Whether you've received negativity from someone, feel like you aren't living up to your personal goals or just are having a bad day, sometimes when your confidence is at a low it's hard to bring it back up again.

-Turn Your Weaknesses Into Strengths-

During a period of self doubt it can be difficult to feel strong as all you can focus on is your weaknesses. It's definitely hard not to dwell on them but try to embrace your flaws; don't keep trying to hide them but rather focus on turning them into strengths.

-Involve Yourself With Positive People-

It's a fact that happiness is contagious. If your friends exude positivity and want to bring you up it'll start to rub off on you. Everyone has bad days and you can't expect anyone to be happy 24/7, but ensure your friends are supportive of you and eachother; be a group of people that empower eachother.

-Try To Stop Comparing-

Don't compare your start to someone else's end. So much easier said than done. If you can't seem to shake your low confidence it might be because you're comparing yourself to other people and giving yourself too many expectations. Focus on yourself and your own progress and growth as a person; we all do it in our own time, no need to put the pressure of comparison on yourself.

-Do Something For You-

Get your hair done, bake a cake and eat it all to yourself, spend the night in watching your favourite film. Do something that makes you happy, because YOU want to. You shouldn't solely rely on anyone else to boost your self-esteem and confidence; take the reins (and responsibility) and wear that lipstick that makes you feel a million dollars for yourself.

-Confide In Those You Trust-

There's no shame in admitting your self esteem is at a low point. Talk to someone you trust and that genuinley cares about you about how you're feeling to get it off your chest. Not only will it feel cleansing to talk about your emotions but they may give you some valuable advice. Whoever you talk to, be sure not just rant at them, listen to and cherish their response; a third person perspective that is honest and that you trust is something that shouldn't be taken for granted.
