Fashion Hacks For Cold Weather

fashion, winter, weather, cold, what to wear, keep warm, warm, cosy, snow, winter fashion, style, 2016, youwishyou, Catherine Delves, fashion blogger, fbloggers,

I'm one of those people that is cold all the time (even in summer) and it truly sucks. Unsurprisingly, the cold is even more unbearable in these autumn and winter months and I am tired of seeing 'winter fashion' pictures on Pinterest of girls big coats but bare legs or short sleeved jumpers; I would feel like dying of cold if I ever wore anything like that out. Even though I straight up accept the fact I can't leave the house without everything covered in the winter, I still like to try and look nice,  I mean, realistic winter fashion can be Pinterest worthy too. If like me you're sick of hearing winter fashion advice that doesn't help whatsoever with keeping you warm, hold tight for some actually sensible - but chic - cold weather fashion hacks.

-Buy Coats One Size Up-

I always buy my outwear one size up to allow room for layers underneath your coat. There's nothing worse than it being freezing cold outside but your many layers being too tight under your coat and getting cold sweats, isn't that the most awful feeling?! To combat this issue I simply purchase one size up so I can layer as much as I want and still be comfortable.

-Warm Head = Warm Body-

Hats are cute, but also super practical for keeping warm. We lose the most amount of body heat through our heads, so if that's no an excuse to buy yourself a shit tonne of new hats, I don't know what is. My all time favourite style hat is a boyish beanie, they are super comfortable and very warm. But, caps are taking the world by storm at the moment, and the more I see a beautiful styled cap on Instagram, the more I want one for myself. Hatstore have a great selection of both beanies and caps so be sure to check them out for some winter styling inspo!

-Patterned Tights Under Ripped Jeans-

I love the look of ripped jeans but I can't stand my legs being exposed to the elements. Wearing patterned tights under ripped jeans is a great way to keep warm but also add a layer of style to your outfit.

-Invest in Boots-

If there's one thing I've learnt from winters past it's that Primark boots aren't winter proof. Winter proof boots need to be super comfortable, water tight and warm and spending the extra pounds to ensure they are all of these things is so, so worth it. My most looked for thing when buying winter shoes is if they will be comfortable enough to throw on rain or shine (I recently found out while shopping that all of River Island's boots have extra sole padding) and considering the material's suitability against water. If you don't live in the UK you might need to worry less about water, but here it is wet 4/7 days of the week in winter!

-Buy a Blanket Scarf-

The best thing I ever purchased for winter time was a blanket scarf/cape. I remember first falling in love with the blanket scarf seeing it on the Burberry catwalk in 2014 and even a year on, it is still one of my all time favourite accessories. They are amazing for wrapping up extremely warm but make an outfit look so polished and chic with literally no effort on your part.

  1. Great post! I know the feeling of being cold all the time it really is such a pain! When I see winter fashion posts which consist of the person wearing a light cardigan with jeans and some cute ankle boots I dither thinking about it and really wonder if it's just me that can't get away with wearing such little amount of clothing without freezing to death haha!

  2. Loved this post. I always buy my coats one or two sizes up so I can add more layers. Zara do THE best blanket scarfs, they are amazing. Really enjoyed reading your post :)

  3. My blanket scarf must be one of the best clothing items I have ever bought. It keeps me so warm and comfortable when I'm on the go, and when I'm feeling a little chilly during classes or at work, I wrap it around myself to keep me warm!
