The Sunday Post | Kindness Doesn't Cost a Thing

It's been a gorgeously relaxing week as I've had the week off before my new semester starts on Tuesday. I've majorly indulged in my hobbies that I wasn't able to make time for over the last few weeks, so there's been a lot of make-up looks posted on my Instagram, Youtube videos planned and filmed and blog post written. I'm not going to lie, my organisation expectations may not match the reality when it comes to knuckling back down with uni but the intention is there! I think I am looking forward to being back and having an actual routine to organise rather than just free time. Saying that, this time next week I'll probably be wishing my free time back!

Although this week has been good for the majority, there has been one thing that has really struck a cord with me. It's really come to my attention more than ever how cruel and unkind some people can be. I've been spending a lot of time on social media this week and seriously, I just am over the amount of unnecessary unkindness I see on the internet. Whether it be Youtube, Instragram, Twitter even Facebook I see so many negative, mean comments from girls slating other girls. Of course, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I don't understand how someone can justify saying something unkind about a person, especially when it's about something like their appearance or personal life. I will be the first to hold my hands up and admit that I'm no angel; I've thought to myself "Oh god, those eyebrows looks awful" when scrolling through Instagram, but I would never, ever say to someone that I thought the way they looked was bad. Because why would I? I'm no Helen of Troy. I'm not a make-up artist, I have spotty skin, I'm chubby, I have frizzy hair and a big nose. I have many flaws both inside and out as we all do, and I can't understand why anyone would criticise someone for not being perfect when they most definitely are not. In addition to that, the thought of someone reading a mean comment about themselves breaks my heart. I seriously just can't comprehend why anyone would want to try and make someone feel shit about themselves. It seems like so many people are okay with being mean and saying horrible things about each other on the internet and it's just not okay. There is a human being at the receiving end of those comments and whether they care to admit it or not, it feels shit. I purely don't understand in what way it's acceptable to try a bring someone down and say horrible things about them just because you can. Even if a comment is over the internet, that doesn't make it any less real and it doesn't make the emotions the person receiving those comments feel any less real.

In my own life as well, the person closest to me in the world has been feeling down as a result of other people. I don't really know how to talk about it without giving too much personal information away, because it's not my business to really be sharing on the internet, but what I will say is that it's the worst feeling in the world seeing someone you love being hurt by other people and not being able to do a thing to make it better. I'm seriously exhausted of people being cruel to other people just because. It's crazy that it's so common in real life and on the internet. In a world where we're kicking the ass of racism, homophobia, sexism why is bullying and hating on each other so common? We should be spreading positivity, supporting and empowering one another rather than calling each other ugly, fake sluts. Literally, I've browsed Instagram while writing this post and I've seen so many negative comments on people's pictures, it's heartbreaking. This isn't Battle Royale people, we don't need to pick each other off and bully until we're the last one standing! Like, everyone just needs to relax and be happy. Happy people don't feel the need to try and make other people feel upset and if you're not happy you need to focus on yourself and finding the solutions to your problems through yourself rather than spreading your negativity.

I'm sorry this post has turned into a bit of a rant but this subject has been picking away at me all week and I hate feeling powerless to a situation that upsets me so much. I think it's so important to try and fill your own life with positivity and empowerment, and attempting to lift other people up is a big part of that. The impact of a small, hateful comment can be big but so can that of a kind comment. I really and truly hope that this post inspires you to spread a little more positivity, just a small gesture of kindness can honestly make a day. You don't know what any one person is going through so please just be mindful and KIND throughout your day to day life, it doesn't cost a thing.

  1. I always like to have the ethos "if you've got nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all". Twitter has been pretty negative lately, I've barely been on it for that reason! x

    1. That's definitely a good ethos to live by! It does make social media so off putting :( xx

  2. Oh no that's awful I hope your friend is okay, people are asshole seriously sometimes I lose faith completely xxx

  3. Being kind takes seconds and can build someone up so much. People just need to get a grip and stop being so mean! I had someone follow me in my car the other day and put me in a VERY dangerous situation all because I had slightly misjudged something. I was a state, if he'd decided just to be kind and forgiving a lot of stress would have been avoided. I hope that the person you refer to in this post is alright, and realises that karma will get those nasty people eventually!

    1. That's so scary, I hope you're okay <3 thank you xx

  4. I absolutely love this post, I think it is so important to remember that kindness doesn't cost a thing because it is something that is so important in the world. I think unfortunately you're always going to find people in the world who will try to bring you down, but remember that you don't need them. You're an incredible person and you don't need any of that horrid negativity in your life!

  5. This was such a thoughtful post. Thank you for it :)<3 I too don't understand why people have the need to be unkind to each other? Especially adults and especially to people who they don't personally know even. I just don't get it.
Luckily there are also lots lovely and superkind people in this world <3

    1. Thanks so much. I know exactly what you mean, it's just so avoidable! Xx

  6. Wow I had no idea that people were making negative comments on Instagram. I have never come across that but I do only have a few followers less then 300 so I haven't had any negative comments on any of my posts.

I know that quite a few of the bigger you tubers have spoken too have had a really hard time with HATE and you hit the nail on the head it's a form of bullying and very unnecessary.

All us bloggers and vloggers should be supporting one another instead of saying mean comments after all we are a community and there is just no need to slate each other.

As for your friend hun whatever she is going through she will be happy that she has you to confide in and you will be helping her.
